Student & Parent Guide

Last updated: June 20, 2026

Resume Bestie helps students and first-time job seekers build a real resume even when they don't have formal work experience. This page is a plain-language summary written for students and the parents and guardians who help them. It is not a replacement for our Terms, Privacy Policy, or AI Agreement — it just makes the parts that matter most easy to understand.

Who Resume Bestie is for

Resume Bestie is built for adults and for students applying for their first job, scholarship, internship, or college spot. Student Mode is a guided intake that turns school, clubs, sports, volunteer work, and side hustles into a professional, ATS-friendly resume. It is not marketed to children and is not designed for kids under 13.

How Family profiles work

On the Family plan there is always exactly one account holder — the parent or guardian. The parent signs up, pays, and signs in. The parent then creates up to two additional profiles inside that account for their kids or other family members. Important things to know:

  • Children do not have their own login. They never enter a password, never receive account emails, and cannot sign in on their own device.
  • The parent switches between profiles from the top-right of the dashboard. Each profile has its own resumes; nothing is shared between profiles.
  • The parent is the legal account holder and controls every profile under the account, including the right to view, edit, export, or delete a child's resumes at any time.
  • If the parent deletes the account, every child profile and every resume under it is deleted as well.
  • We never email, text, or send marketing to a child profile. All communications go to the parent's email on file.

Age requirement

  • You must be at least 13 to create an account.
  • If you are 13–17, a parent or guardian must review our Terms and Privacy Policy and agree to them with you.
  • We ask you to confirm both of these in the Student Mode intake before we build the resume.
  • If we find an account was created for a child under 13, we will delete it.

What Student Mode collects

Only what we need to write a useful resume:

  • Name and email (so the resume has contact info and so you can sign in).
  • Optional phone number and city/state for the resume header.
  • School name, grade, expected graduation year, and optional GPA / Honor Roll / AP classes.
  • Clubs, sports, leadership roles, volunteer activities, and your own descriptions of life experience (e.g., "I babysat my cousins," "I run a small Etsy shop").
  • Skills you select or type in.

What Student Mode never asks for

  • Date of birth.
  • Social Security number or government ID.
  • Home street address.
  • Parent or guardian contact details.
  • Photos, race, religion, health, or any other sensitive category.

How AI is used

We use a large language model (through the Lovable AI Gateway) to turn the information you enter into resume bullets. The AI is instructed never to invent jobs, dates, awards, or numbers. It can still make mistakes — read every bullet, fix anything that isn't true, and ask a parent, teacher, or counselor to look it over before sending the resume to an employer. We do not allow your content to be used to train third-party foundation models.

How we protect students

  • No targeted advertising. We do not show ads.
  • We do not sell or "share" minors' personal information for cross-context behavioral advertising.
  • Encryption in transit and at rest, with row-level security on the database so each account can only see its own resumes.
  • Resume content is deleted within 30 days of account deletion.

Parent & guardian rights

If your child is between 13 and 17 and has an account, you can ask us to:

  • Tell you what information we have about them.
  • Correct anything that is wrong.
  • Delete the account and the resume content.

Email support@resumebestie.com from an address we can reasonably verify with the subject line "Parent Request". Include the student's name and the email they used to sign up. We will respond within the time required by applicable law (typically 30 days or less).

Tips for parents helping a teen apply

  • Sit with your teen for the intake — it usually takes 10–15 minutes.
  • Read the finished resume out loud together. If a bullet sounds too big or isn't true, edit it.
  • Use your own family email if you'd like to receive copies of important account messages.
  • Remind your teen never to share their password or click suspicious "job offer" links.
